Received a nice little pick me up at work today. My secret pal snuck into my cube and left me a surprise of flowers and a mermaid bracelet! So bright and cheery! I'd been having a blah day so it boosted my spirits!!
Jordan sent me a pic today of his Halloween outfit. Whoa! Seriously scary. Not sure what outfit I'll be sporting for October 31 but Lord knows there are plenty of costume ideas at my house.

Beer Bust at the Capitol
The old boys network has struck again!
Can't believe drunken frat-boy predator Kavanaugh is going to be confirmed as a lifetime Supreme Court justice. Did you see the way he behaved during the hearings? This is not someone who should be serving as a role model on the highest court in our land.
I'm generally not a political person but I find this highly disappointing. This should serve as a reminder to all of us women to vote.

Crafts in Action
A few weeks ago arrived to work and found the entry way table toppled over with a framed wall mirror broken. It appeared the mirror had fallen from the wall and caused the destruction. After picking up the glass and setting things right, I moved the empty frame to one side.
Been looking at that glassless frame for awhile and knew it had better things in store for it. Got the green light to take it and decided to make a crafterpiece for my secret pal at work.
Scrounged up a Paris-themed tablecloth at home along with black ribbon. Brought out the staple gun and voila! Perfect picture memo board was born!
Snuck it into her cube the following morning. She loved it! It's obvious we have each other as secret pals but we have to keep up the facade so was forced to feign surprise at what a cool gift she had received.
There's something about giving someone an unexpected smile that makes my day!

A Totaled Tuesday
Ya ever have one of those days? Today was one of those days when I should have stayed in bed.
Woke up this morning, showered, and got ready for work. Why is it when you are going to spend the day in overalls at home that your makeup looks fabulous yet on a work day it's just lackluster? Yeah, that kind of day.
It was also a wash my hair day, which meant more time to fix it as it takes forever to dry. Ended up with big poofy hair, so much so that I tossed a hair claw in my purse just in case.
On to my clothes. Oh here are some pants to wear that were in the back of my closet, along with a top and sweater. Get to work to discover as I walk past the glass door entrance that not only are my pants high waters but there was a hole in my shirt. On top of that, the sweater sleeves slid too far down so was forced to roll the sleeves up after continuously shoving them didn't help.
Power went out at work so spent about an hour or so twiddling my thumbs. Hair giving me fits so shoved in the clip. Proceeded to eat not only my daily yogurt but also a danish, popcorn, and bag of Fritos. It's like I'm PMS'ing, which could be the case since Aunt Flo continues to visit sporadically.
Home from work and immediately threw on my sweats. Have been counting down the minutes until I could legitimately go to bed rather than crawling in at 5pm.
Let's hope tomorrow is a better day!!

Now Where Did I Put My Soapbox??
Ran across this and felt I needed to share, especially now that we are witnessing so many men dismissing Christine Ford's testimony against Brett Kavanaugh during the Supreme Court hearing. Wake Up Men!!!
On a side note, I also just learned that women make up 52% of the registered voters. We have the majority! Let's not waste it when we vote!
Guys ask why women are so pissed off. Jackson Katz, a prominent social researcher, illustrates why. He's done it with hundreds of audiences:
"I draw a line down the middle of a chalkboard, sketching a male symbol on one side and a female symbol on the other.
Then I ask just the men: What steps do you guys take, on a daily basis, to prevent yourselves from being sexually assaulted? At first there is a kind of awkward silence as the men try to figure out if they've been asked a trick question. The silence gives way to a smattering of nervous laughter. Occasionally, a young a guy will raise his hand and say, 'I stay out of prison.' This is typically followed by another moment of laughter, before someone finally raises his hand and soberly states, 'Nothing. I don't think about it.'
,
Then I ask the women the same question. What steps do you take on a daily basis to prevent yourselves from being sexually assaulted? Women throughout the audience immediately start raising their hands. As the men sit in stunned silence, the women recount safety precautions they take as part of their daily routine.
Hold my keys as a potential weapon. Look in the back seat of the car before getting in. Carry a cell phone. Don't go jogging at night. Lock all the windows when I sleep, even on hot summer nights. Be careful not to drink too much. Don't put my drink down and come back to it; make sure I see it being poured. Own a big dog. Carry Mace or pepper spray. Have an unlisted phone number. Have a man's voice on my answering machine. Park in well-lit areas. Don't use parking garages. Don't get on elevators with only one man, or with a group of men. Vary my route home from work. Watch what I wear. Don't use highway rest areas. Use a home alarm system. Don't wear headphones when jogging. Avoid forests or wooded areas, even in the daytime. Don't take a first-floor apartment. Go out in groups. Own a firearm. Meet men on first dates in public places. Make sure to have a car or cab fare. Don't make eye contact with men on the street. Make assertive eye contact with men on the street.”

A Lovely Cake Offers A Welcome Slice
Top Chef is one of my favorite shows. Love to see the competition, the creativity, and the backstabbing. There are always stories - who stole someone's recipe, who is flirting with whom, and which chef is going to be thrown under the bus.
On the flip side, just started watching The Great British Baking Show. All the competitors are kind, good-natured, and pitch in to help their fellow contestants to finish their baked items. The hosts are lovely and when they judge the food, they even hand out constructive criticism in a respectful, thoughtful way. When the winner is announced, all of the participants are genuinely happy for them.
It's quite the difference between an American competition and a British one. Perhaps the U.S. is losing its manners, it's sense of respect and kindness. Or we simply enjoy the cutthroat side of entertainment. It has been a breath of fresh air to watch a program with so much caring.

Hostess with the Mostess!
One of my favorite treats is the Suzy Q. I know, not very nutritious but damn they are good, especially frozen.
When Hostess stopped production on this delicious treat, it was a sad day. Then they brought them back! I picked up a box and alas they were a raggedy imitation of the original. Different size, dry cake, and hardly any filling. Didn't buy anymore after that because it just wasn't the same.
A couple weeks ago I ran across a box of Suzy Q's, couldn't help myself, and picked them up. Who knows - perhaps they had changed?
Well I was gobsmacked because they had indeed returned to the chocolate, creamy delight I previously knew. Just like the old recipe!
Decided to give Hostess kudos for retooling the recipe. Looked on line for the corporate contact and ran across an article that said after so much backlash they decided to return to the old recipe. Best thing they did!
Found the corporate website and sent them a congratulations thank you email expressing my gratitude that the Suzy Q had been restored to its greatness.
Yesterday received a nice thank you letter back along with a coupon for a free Hostess snack. Definitely channeled my mom in this venture as she was renown for all the letters she wrote to companies about her experiences with their products. I will think of her when I'm enjoying my free treat!
