Top Chef is one of my favorite shows. Love to see the competition, the creativity, and the backstabbing. There are always stories - who stole someone's recipe, who is flirting with whom, and which chef is going to be thrown under the bus.
On the flip side, just started watching The Great British Baking Show. All the competitors are kind, good-natured, and pitch in to help their fellow contestants to finish their baked items. The hosts are lovely and when they judge the food, they even hand out constructive criticism in a respectful, thoughtful way. When the winner is announced, all of the participants are genuinely happy for them.
It's quite the difference between an American competition and a British one. Perhaps the U.S. is losing its manners, it's sense of respect and kindness. Or we simply enjoy the cutthroat side of entertainment. It has been a breath of fresh air to watch a program with so much caring.
