Home Decor Based On Freebies and Bargains

Spent Saturday transporting the final five loads from the storage unit. Packed and unpacked an armoire, dresser, headboard and footboard, futon frame, four truck tires, and assorted other objects all by my lonesome! Well, except for one trip when a guy at his storage unit offered to help load the headboard and dresser into my rig. The only item left was a very tall bookshelf that was too long for me to safely transport so the job was assigned to Sam. I swept, dusted out the cobwebs, and the storage unit door was closed for the last time.

After my last load, I stopped at Big Lots then Goodwill to browse.  Shouldn't have taken those side trips because by the time I arrived home,  I was not in the mood to unpack. Thankfully, determination is a great motivator! Pulled up my bootstraps, dug in, and emptied out the vehicle.

My recent hobby has been to browse Facebook Marketplace looking for deals on furniture. On Sunday, stumbled across a dark brown sofa that looked clean and comfy. And best of all, it was free!  Contacted the seller and tried to figure out a time to view the couch. Sis Erin was coming to visit so it needed to work around our schedule.

Erin arrived, bearing gifts including my grandmother's rocker, a vintage chair she had recovered in fur, and a host of other items. She even gifted to me the "Perfect Man." All unloaded, we decided to view the free sofa.

Arrived at the seller's house and there was a man getting out of his van. He spoke limited English so our communication was a comedy of errors. I asked about the couch, he said yes the couch and pointed to his phone with the house address. I asked him to show me the couch and he pointed to the front door. Erin and I started walking to the door and he followed, seemingly confused. Then it hit me - he was also a customer arriving to look at the couch! Duh - no wonder we were all clueless!

Knocked on the door, rang the doorbell - no answer.  Figured it was fate so we left to eat lunch. Texted the seller and let him know what happened. He said to come back as he saved the "good" couch for me.

Erin and I finished our lunch at Tim's Tavern (cheap and tasty bar food) and then back for the couch. Looked it over, said yes and then the seller said he and his son would haul it to my house. Score! They loaded it in their truck, followed us to my place, then hauled it into the house. New couch and labor all for free!

Hit Erin up to help me move the armoire and headboard into the house. Hey - a girl's got to use her options when they are available!!  After she left, I spent time setting up the living room, organizing the armoire in my office/craft room, and scooting the headboard into place.  I also finished setting up and installing a plug-in doorbell!  House bell doesn't work and can't hear the door knocking when I'm in a back room so figured I needed to set up my own.

And here it is Monday. Woke up early and proceeded to change out the throws and pillows on the couch and loveseat. Browsed Facebook at lunch and ran across a beautiful glass coffee table for $25 (from $50) that would look perfect in the living room. It was still available so ran over after work and snagged it.  Heavyweight glass, sturdy metal base - adds the perfect touch to the living room. It's such high quality I'm even using coasters!!

After two years of renting a room, I didn't realize how much better I could feel in my own place. Happier, more energetic, and at peace. Should have done it sooner but everything happens how and when in it's own time.
